Applied Research
SEA has continued to successfully deliver value-for-money exploitable research to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). An important reason behind this success is the investment SEA has put into developing a unique approach to the management of MoD research. The company uses a management model that provides intelligent technical coordination and integration of teams of the best available industry partners, tailoring its process to meet individual customer's requirements.
We believe successful industry-led research requires close engagement with both customer and suppliers. A key element of this methodology is the use of well thought through customer and supplier engagement plans. Before starting a new research task for Dstl, SEA spends time with end users, Dstl staff and potential suppliers building up an in-depth understanding of not only the research needs but also the exploitation routes. SEA also uses its system-of-systems expertise to work with Dstl to integrate research task outputs to deliver unplanned benefits. This in-depth understanding of both supplier capability and customer needs enables us to conduct leading-edge research within multi-faceted 'rainbow' teams to deliver an integrated and exploitable output that provides end users with tangible exploitation.
Our technical teams are the guardians of research quality. Engineers work closely with Dstl and Front Line Commands to ensure what is delivered is of the required standard for subsequent exploitation. They have developed an adaptive technical assurance procedure that enables them to manage the quality of output across the full spectrum of research.
SEA is also delivering managed research to industry partners and we are confident companies can benefit from contracting SEA to work with their R&D departments to manage the delivery of timely and exploitable research.
