Open Architecture Management
An open architecture design, based on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) processing and communications links and conforming to open, published interface standards ensures that designs that exhibit low risk and simple capability upgrades. SEA is a proponent of open architecture (OA) COTS-based hardware and software systems and, as well as delivering systems based on OA principles, can offer OA management services. This service provides:
- Policy development (plan for evolution of standards and technologies, develop approach to openness assessment, technology watch)
- Management (ownership and management of review processes. Development of a performance monitoring approach, with reporting on performance monitoring approach, with reporting on performance achieved)
- Compliance assurance (agree openness at SRD stage with system integrator, regulate adoption of standards by system integrator, monitor system integrator design and management process)
- Technical support (assist with understanding and interpretation of SRD, assist with negotiations, assist with managing risk for openness issues, advise on achievement of openness)
- Representation (co-ordinate peer review meetings, provide point-of-contact for openness)
