High-resolution bathymetry and sidescan sonar for autonomous underwater vehicles
The role of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for military, research and commercial applications is growing rapidly, along with the range of AUV-fitted sensors. SEA has been working with Hydroid to develop a compact bathymetric sonar for its successful REMUS-100 vehicle, which will provide a wide swath capability. Known as SWATHplus-RS100, the sonar will enhance the SWATHplus family of sonars already on offer from SEA.
The SWATHplus-RS100 fits as a short section of the AUV (< 40 cm length) and will be available on new vehicles and for upgrades to existing vehicles. The system operates at 468 kHz, as for the current ship-based SWATHplus-H, providing high accuracy bathymetric survey with co-located sidescan over excellent swath-width to depth ratios.
Applications
- autonomous hydrographic surveys
- navigational charting
- environmental monitoring
- marine civil engineering
- wreck location
