Buyer – Technical / Engineering

The Buyer will work within the small purchasing team and will be responsible for costing engineered components and equipment from technical drawings.  As such, the Buyer will work closely with Engineering and Business Development colleagues, alongside the external supply chain to both minimise costs and ensure cost forecasts are accurate for the purposes of bid pricing.

Job Role

The role will be but not exclusively: 

  • Review drawings, bills of material and technical specifications to determine material, tooling and component requirements for manufacturing contracts
  • Compile job estimates based on input from suppliers, sub-contractors and internal engineering and production staff
  • Liaise with internal engineering design team, production staff and business development team to compile estimates effectively
  • Build strong relationship with suppliers and ensure purchasing requirements are accurately placed with the supply chain, and appropriately followed up
  • Support the wider Purchasing Function when required

Experience Required

  • Purchasing, Supply Chain experience within an engineering and manufacturing business       
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communications skills
  • Engineering / technical qualification
