Summary

Are you a Senior Buyer with experience of working within a manufacturing environment? Are you looking to apply your skills and experience to a new challenge?

As Senior Buyer, you will be expected to influence and shape the future of SEA’s procurement activities and change the current transactional service to one that is strategic and all-encompassing. This is a hands-on purchasing role with some management responsibilities for the purchasing personnel, whilst ensuring compliance with the standards required for a manufacturing company working within the Defence sector.

Job Role

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for many of the procurement activities required across all company sites
  • Working to implement change to introduce strategic procurement methods to the company
  • Sourcing products and services in line with ERP/MRP system demand and purchase requests from non-production business areas
  • Obtaining competitive quotations and negotiating terms with suppliers to agree contracts
  • Responsible for supplier performance including the maintenance of supplier KPIs and the use of these to drive through performance improvement
  • Responsible for supplier relationship management
  • Assisting with the introduction of service standards to improve the purchasing service received by departments throughout the company
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with purchasing procedures and providing reports and advice on department performance and improved ways of working
  • Engender excellent team spirit, focused on achievement of common goals
  • Management of Assistant Buyer and Buyer, reporting into Commercial and Supply Chain Manager

Experience Required

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a purchasing role, 5 years+ is desirable
  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive knowledge of different methods of transactional and strategic purchasing, sourcing techniques and supplier management techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with key stakeholders across the organisation
  • Strong negotiation skills and proven track record in negotiation
  • Strategic thinker with ability to make decisions in line with the ‘bigger picture’
  • Excellent IT skills
  • ERP/MRP system experience
  • Manufacturing environment experience

Desirable

  • Experience in management of people and/or resources
  • CIPS qualifications
  • Defence sector experience
