Technical Data Engineer - NSIPS

Summary

Technical Advice & Support (TAS) is one of several business teams operating within SEA’s Complex Systems & Solutions (CS&S) Division. It provides short to medium term technical expertise to the Defence market. One of its branches is Maritime TAS, which delivers Naval Combat Systems Technical Advice & Support to DE&S, a number of Defence Primes and oversea clients.

Job Role

As Technical Data Engineer you will already have systems engineering and some database expertise and will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining and updating the NSIPS Database
  • Managing the Change Impact Assessment Process (CIAP)
  • Updating Combat Systems platform data and aligning it with current Sub-Surface and Surface platform configurations
  • Stakeholder Management – maintaining good working relationships with the MOD Customer and the Royal Navy

You will report to Project Manager Maritime TAS, helping to develop and grow the NSIPS database project.

Experience Required

Essential:

  • An understanding of engineering systems
  • Have undertaken further education in an engineering related subject(s)
  • Good understanding of data capture, data manipulation and publication processes
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Hold Security clearance to DVA SC Level or be prepared to submit to clearance procedures
  • Good inter-personal communication skills
  • Extremely well organised and have the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Be a strong team player, but able to work on own initiative when required
  • A keen desire to develop a career path within (Naval) Systems Engineering

Desirable:

  • Background in Naval Engineering with a clear grasp of current Naval Combat Systems
  • Experience of the UK Armed Forces as Naval Engineer
  • Experience of routine reporting to a Project Manager
  • Good working knowledge of either MS Project or a Graphical Design package (ie: Visio)
