We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Business Development Director Tim Phelps, who will be based primarily from our Beckington office.
Tim will oversee the development and growth of our commercial business, whilst guiding the team to progress the trusted relationships we have with our current customers and exploring and developing new relationships and market opportunities that our business strategy presents.
Tim is a hugely experienced business development leader in the defence industry having worked in both naval and land sectors; he is well equipped in understanding the market and building strong customer connections. His career started as an Electronic Engineering Apprentice, learning the complexities of naval systems at Plessey Radar and extends to Business Development Directorship at Leonardo Land and Naval Systems. The combination of skills Tim has offers a unique perspective within Business Development, having worked on major projects including the FRES (Future Rapid Effect System) of armoured fighting vehicles for the British Army, 30mm naval gun systems for MSI Defence Systems and high-end thermal imaging and ultra-rugged computers with DRS Technologies. One particular project of note was working in submarine torpedo fire control with Dowty Maritime, which is very similar to the capabilities we produce here!
Having worked within companies of all sizes, Tim found the relatively small scale of SEA combined with the potential for growth particularly interesting. This, alongside our specialism in R&D, products, solutions and systems are what initially attracted Tim, but our positive reputation across the industry is what ultimately aided Tim’s decision to become part of our team. Tim commented that ‘Since joining SEA, I have found the reception overwhelmingly positive and I’m excited to begin working with the team, being face to face with customers again, and begin developing business for such a great organisation.’
Outside of work, Tim has two grown-up children aged 24 and 25 – his daughter lives in London and his son moved to Australia 3 years ago. In his own time, Tim loves to get back to roots as an engineer and is an avid classic car restorer. He described getting to tinker with his cars as great ‘thinking-time’ after being behind a screen all day!
Managing Director, Richard Flitton said: “I am extremely excited to welcome Tim to SEA; his diverse background and experience within the defence industry will no doubt bring new prospects and external relationships to the business, helping us to develop rewarding industry partnerships and contributing to future growth.”
We hope you warmly welcome Tim and that your first few weeks have been none other than great!
