Our People

Read what our people have to say about working at SEA.

I have only worked at SEA for the past 8 months but already feel at home! My role involves using my skills to introduce a more strategic and customer focused process to the purchasing department. The people who work at SEA are incredible, I have never worked at a company with so many brilliant people whose minds and skillsets astound me, I feel that I’ve learnt something new after every conversation! Barnstaple is a great site to work at as there is always a buzz of activity, whether it’s developing new products or tackling production issues, plus at the end of the day you can be at some of the best beaches in the UK within 20 minutes.

I joined SEA as an apprentice at the age of 18 with aspirations of becoming and engineer. I wanted to follow a more vocational route rather than a traditional university route. Over the past 15 years the company has trained and supported me from an apprentice through to degree qualified engineer and given me the opportunities and responsibility to attain my Chartership with the IET. One of my highlights was swimming with the KraitArray product when performing integration trial in Hawaii.

I started as an Executive Assistant eight years ago and then had the opportunity to work within Human Resources so I studied both CIPD level 3 and 5 to become a Human Resources Officer. The company benefits are great and the work is both challenging and rewarding. I am extremely pleased and proud to have taken the leap into Human Resources as it has enabled me to get involved with the Young Worker Programmes working with Apprentices, Graduates and local schools to encourage pupils to get involved in STEM subjects.

I joined SEA as an Executive Assistant with a Business and Management Degree. I transitioned into Security and Data Protection when an opportunity arose within the company and I went for it! Every day is different and presents new and exciting challenges. My job is extremely varied and every day is different. SEA has presented me with opportunities and have progressed my career in a short period. I have been supported with training and mentoring, allowing me to continue to grow my expertise. It has allowed me to be influential in making a change and a difference – specifically delivering a Security Awareness Campaign and improving security culture at SEA.

I had a successful career in the Royal Navy prior to joining SEA five years ago. The working environment is interesting and worthwhile but most importantly I have great colleagues! I have had many highlights over the past few years but I was particularly proud of bidding for, and winning, a research task with Dstl into Autonomous ASW systems.

I work as a Senior Manager providing commercial advice in an exciting engineering environment. I do this whilst working flexible hours to balance my full time job with my family commitments at home. Whilst working for SEA I have also been lucky enough to spend 3 years studying towards my MCIPS professional qualification which I gained last year. With SEA’s fantastic support I’ve balanced study, work and family and progressed my career too.

Since joining SEA six years ago, my role has progressed a great deal and I have been lucky enough to undertake training required to further my career. Being responsible for the ways in which we market SEA products and capabilities can at times, be quite challenging, but it's very enjoyable to find new ways to showcase our expertise. I hope that the skills I have gained over the years, and continue to gain, will enable my career to grow, bringing with it fresh challenges to face no doubt!

I have been in Administration roles since I left school. When I joined SEA, I was given the opportunity to develop my Administration skills and successfully transitioned in to a Project Co-ordinator role. I have learnt a lot fascinating information about the products we manufacture and been at the heart of their production. Over the past few months I have solely been working on KraitArray. If it wasn’t for working within SEA I would not have had this opportunity to grow my knowledge of engineering.

I have been extremely lucky working as an engineer within SEA; I’ve worked on Astute Class submarines as an integration engineer, I created the first version of the Combat Systems Engineering Tool at SSMG and I’m now in Production Delivery where my engineering (and project management) background gives me a greater understanding and appreciation of what is needed to build the products we make. I hope this experience will help to continue my career to a higher level within the company.

I joined SEA direct from university and am one of a number of long serving employees. Over the years SEA has presented me with numerous exciting and challenging opportunities, enabling me to develop my career and take on a senior role within the company.

Since joining SEA, I have been made to feel part of a large and successful team being involved in all different aspects of team projects. SEA is a very professional and caring company and you really do feel that you matter as an individual. I have learnt a lot of different secretarial / IT skills and have had very good mentors, whilst still being able to deliver a high standard of receptionist skills to the company. The staff are all very friendly and have made me feel very welcome. I feel like I have worked here for 6 years and not 6 months! There is plenty of scope to progress throughout SEA and broaden your horizons.
